Hilltop Equestrian Center Horse Trial - August 12, 2012

Dreamy and I competed at the Hilltop Horse Trial on August 12.  We had a good day despite a small bobble in cross country where the sneaky mare decided to have a dirty run out on FENCE ONE!  WTF!  LOL!  All I can say is that the only type of fence she has decided not to like is anything with hay!

Thankfully, the rest of the course was good.  She was forward and happy.  We had to jump a ditch, a down bank, and through water, which are all things we have not schooled over as often as I would like.  I am happy that she did not even blink at these fences!  There was only one fence that sort of worried me on the course walk; it was a huge pink table at the top of the hill after the water.  It was a perfect spot to gallop up, but it was on a turn so the table came up quickly.  I rode her forward and right to the base of it and she was perfect!  :-)

Our dressage score was a 35.7 in BN Test B.  We had mostly 6s with three 7s (one on our entrance, one on our last halt, and on gaits (!!!).  We had an 8 on our free walk, which is typical.  The judge was really encouraging and wrote, "Very nice pair with lots of potential!  Good energy.  Uphill.  Maintain rhythm with better connection.  Keep working - it is ALL IN THERE!"  I thought those were super nice comments.

We went clear in stadium and Dreamy was really responsive and picked up the correct leads, though a few times I had to do a simple change.  I am just really happy she is now able to canter a course without getting all discombobulated or flailing around.  LOL!  I know we will never have perfect auto changes, and at her age (21), I feel it would be ridiculous to expect them.  We ended up in second place because of our refusal in cross country.  Overall, it was a really good day!!

Congrats! You and Dreamy rock!

I can relate to getting excited about the gaits score. That is a big deal!
